A Brisbane resident provided much-needed entertainment to his locked-down neighbours last night with a socially distanced 17th storey DJ set.

A Saturday night in COVID lockdown did not stop one community from having the time of their lives, as they celebrated in true laid-back Brisbane style - socially distanced and having fun.

Tim Wilde, a Newstead Uber driver and long-retired wedding and party DJ from the 80s, delivered tunes for his grateful neighbours as he blasted out hits for all generations from the 17th storey of his apartment complex to enthusiastic and appreciative revellers listening from the safety of their own homes.

“People are locked away, and it’s just a simple way I can contribute to our local community and let people let off steam and know they aren’t alone,” Mr Wilde said.

“It’s great for their mental health and helps them let off steam.”

It’s the third time since COVID-19 hit that Mr Wilde has brought tunes to the ears of his delighted locked-down neighbours, who he says vary in ages from the very young to the old.

“We sort of mix the music up to cater to the different age groups and cater to everyone’s tastes,” Mr Wilde said.

The music enthusiast, who once used a record-player as his DJ equipment of choice but now uses Spotify to entertain his crowds, even took song requests via Facebook from his local community, who could be heard cheering and singing along during the one hour set from 8pm on Saturday evening.

For 23-year-old Newstead resident Claire Hobson, Mr Wilde was a “local legend”, for bringing joy to a Saturday night in iso’.

“It was great to see the power of music bringing the community together in such isolating times, particularly (for) those who live alone,” Miss Hobson said.

“Many people and their dogs stopped as they passed through the local dog park area to look up and take in the sights of disco lights, phone torches and fairy lights from many of the surrounding balconies.

“Nutbush moves, Baby Shark actions and the Cha Cha slide could be seen from many of the residents around the area as Tim catered for all age groups.”

Mr Wilde, who has lived in Newstead for the past four years with his wife, said the community spirit is ever-enduring.

“The response from the community has been fantastic, and lots of them joined in too” he said.

“A lot of them had torches and lights and were singing and dancing on their balconies, it was just a great atmosphere.”

There were no plans for a repeat on Sunday night due to Mr Wilde’s consideration for Monday’s early morning workers, however he said he certainly wouldn’t rule out playing another set in the future, saying he couldn’t think of a better crowd to entertain.

“My wife and I couldn’t think of anywhere better to live, we love our community,” he said.
