A new glamping experience in the Whitsundays, which would offer guests a real escape in the woods experience is waiting on its last approval before starting works.
The proposed development, which was submitted to the Whitsunday Regional Council by The Brandy Creek Farm Trust & Belmour Pty Ltd proposes to develop a 21 hectare property into a glamping area for visitors, made up of eco-cabins.
According to documents submitted to council, the proposal would include seven tiny homes, two safari-style tents, a swimming pool and an amenities building located next to Conway National Park.
Project owner Mark Seymour said the site, which is located at 91 Forestry Rd, Brandy Creek is a “pretty unique spot”, as it is surrounded by mountains.
He said the safari tents would not be used, as they fear those could become mouldy too soon in the Whitsundays’ tropical weather but constructing the cabins should not take more than four months.
The plan outlines a maximum of 19 people are to be onsite at one time once it is operational.
Mr Seymour said this was a choice he made to let guests enjoy nature without being in a crowded environment and with no internet connection, while the property remains only 15 minutes away from Airlie Beach.
The initial proposal had been reviewed by the Whitsunday Regional Council and several conditions were added before handing out the approval.
It stipulated all site works should be designed and supervised by an experienced and qualified Geotechnical Engineer and undertaken in accordance with the recommendations of a Geotechnical Investigation and Stability Assessment.
It also stated that all cut or fill batter slopes are to be protected and retained in a visually acceptable manner prior to commencement of the use.
The Development Permit for Material Change of Use was granted by the Whitsunday Regional Council on May 27.
Mr Seymour said the glamping site should be operational in the next 12 months.
