CFMEU slams safety at Queensland worksite where deck collapse left tradies injured

Images have emerged of a collapse at a South East Queensland worksite that injured four tradies. Workers have slammed the “near-fatal incident” as a case of “cheapest quote wins again”.

The CFMEU has released images of a “near-fatal” collapse at a South East Queensland worksite this week that left four tradies injured.

The Queensland CFMEU posted the images to social media and explained how the “serious incident” which happened at Redbank on Tuesday unfolded.

“A 50 sqm bond deck collapsed during a concrete pour, with at least four workers on deck at the time,” the statement read.

“The collapse appears due to a catastrophic failure of welds in cast-in plates in the precast panels.

“This is a near tragedy, simply should not have happened, and workers have every right to be furious about safety standards on site.”

Workers expressed their concerns over the accident.

“It never seems to fail, building workers getting injured again, that’s one reason why the union exists. United we stand divided we fall,” Jimmy Avinou wrote.

“Welds didn’t fail, casting tore out of the panels … you can clearly see,” Trent Stokes said.

“Cheapest quote wins has struck again,” Karl Los said.

The CFMEU has been for further comment.
