A north Brisbane woman has won the mammoth $100 million Powerball jackpot in Thursday night’s draw.

The Aspley mother realised she had won the huge cash prize after finally checking her ticket which she had left in her car overnight.

The winning ticket was purchased at Nextra Chermside Newsagency, on Gympie Road.

The ticket was unregistered, meaning The Lott officials had no way of knowing who the winner was, or even contacting them to inform them of their win — with a desperate search on for the lucky person since the draw.

The winning woman shared she was only prompted to check the Powerball ticket in her car glovebox after returning from her morning run and hearing of a mystery winner in the region.

“It’s a funny story. At the start of the year, I had a really strange feeling I was going to win a major lottery prize,” she told The Lott.

The mum told The Lott she had a “feeling” she would win one day.

“I told my parents about it, they said, ‘don’t be crazy’, but I just had this strong feeling.

“I haven’t been playing Powerball, so I thought, ‘well, how am I going to win if I don’t buy a ticket?’.

“I was shopping the other day, and it’s coming up to my birthday, so I thought ‘why not?’ and purchased a Powerball ticket.

“The funny thing is too, I almost lost it. I had to pull over on the way home from the shops because I thought I had left it there.

“After that, I put it in my glovebox, and I completely forgot about it until this morning.

“I’m scared to breathe in case this isn’t real. We’re in complete shock.”

The Aspley woman, who has two children, went to look for the ticket after her morning run.

Nextra Chermside Newsagency owners Cara and Shannon Hickey said they were thrilled to have sold the winning ticket.

The family-owned business has sold over $160m in Division 1 winners since it opened more than forty years ago.

Twelve years ago, the newsagency sold the ticket for the third largest Oz Lotto win in Australia.

Friday marks the biggest win for a single person in Queensland history.

“It is her birthday this week so she had a premonition about buying a ticket, she doesn’t regularly play Lotto,” Mrs Hickey explained.

“I believe this was a bit of a one-off for her.

“We are super pumped, we have filled up our store with balloons. It gets all the staff really excited so yeah, we are pumped.

“It is a great way to end the week.”
