Mum of man killed along with ex-bikie warned son against being friends with former gang member

A slain ex-bikie had been involved in the “significant movement” of drugs before he and his business partner were shot dead in a Gold Coast park, a court has been told, as the mother of one of the victims told of the warning she gave her son.

A slain ex-bikie had been involved in the ‘significant movement’ of drugs before he and his business partner were shot dead in a Gold Coast park, a court has been told.

Alleged Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang members Garry James Brush, Nathan John Miller and Brodie Jeet Singh are facing 10-day committal hearing in Southport Magistrates Court charged with the murders of former Comanchero bikie Shane Ross and his Monstr Clothing associate Cameron Martin.

The two men were gunned down after allegedly being lured to a clandestine meeting in a Tallebudgera park in October 2019.

The pair were partners in Monstr Clothing, an apparel and car modification business which the court heard was visited by mystery armed men in December 2018.

Mr Ross and two other men were also charged over a $4.5 million car scam shortly before he was killed, the court was told.

The court heard that Monstr sponsored jet ski races and ‘exotic fast cars’ and that Mr Martin travelled the world.

Singh’s barrister, Saul Holt QC, told Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday evidence would emerge that Ross was involved in moving significant amounts of the drug ice from Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

He said the drug movements involved quantities of up to 8kg at a time.

A top NSW anti-bikie cop, Taskforce Raptor Sergeant Bruce Groenewegen, told the court that he believed Ross was a former Lone Wolf nominee and possibly a full member of the gang who had ‘patched over’ to the Comanchero in 2013 or 2014.

Sgt Groenewegen said the Comanchero were the dominant bikie gang in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The court heard he had identified Singh as ‘probably’ the national president of the Lone Wolf gang but under cross-examination from Mr Holt, he admitted this was based solely on what the barrister suggested was a fake Facebook profile.

Mr Martin’s mother told the court she warned him against becoming friends with the former gang member because she suspected he was ‘into drugs’.

Under cross-examination from Mr Holt, Louise Martin said she and her family had warned her son against becoming involved with Mr Ross because he was an ex-bikie who they suspected was ‘into drugs’.

She agreed with Mr Holt that she was concerned because Monstr ‘might have been a front for dodgy criminal activity’ and said Mr Ross had ‘colourful friends’.

Ms Martin told the court her son was ‘running very rough money-wise’ and she lent him $100,000 in mid-2019 because he was planning to rebrand and restock Monstr Clothing after taking over the business from Mr Ross.

The court heard he had paid $35,000 for Mr Ross to have surgery.

Mourners at his funeral service in November 2019 were told that he had been operated on by renowned brain surgeon Dr Charlie Teo to remove a tumour.

Mrs Martin said she discovered after her son’s death that Monstr Clothing’s assets had disappeared into ‘thin air’.
