UPDATE 6.30PM

A 70-year-old West End man has died following a horror head-on collision on the Bruce Highway north of Townsville.

Police confirmed the man died on Sunday, after he was flown to hospital after the crash at Clement on Saturday about 12.15pm.

Two other people involved in the crash were also treated at the scene for injuries and taken to hospital.

UPDATE – 3PM: A local man has been flown to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition after a horror crash on the Bruce Highway, with the road still closed.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Police Service confirmed there were two vehicles involved in the crash at Clement.

At 12.15pm, a dual cab towing a trailer which was travelling north and a sedan travelling south collided head on.

The sedan then caught alight and was extinguished by a truck driver in the area. He then pulled the 38-year-old driver from Mooroobool, who had sustained minor injuries, out of the vehicle.

The 70-year-old driver of the dual cab, from West End, was flown to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.

It’s understood the man was pinned under one of the vehicles and sustained significant injuries.

The 38-year-old man and a woman were also transported to TUH by ambulance in a stable condition.

The Bruce Highway is still currently blocked as the Forensic Crash Unit investigate.

It’s unknown when the highway will be reopened.

Anyone with information or dashcam vision of the area is urged to contact police.

EARLIER – 1PM: Three people are seriously injured and the Bruce Highway is closed after a head-on crash north of Townsville.

Emergency services were called to the highway in Clement, just south of the Pace Rd turn-off, just before 12.30pm.

It’s believed an two cars had a head-on crash on the highway.

It’s believed one of the vehicles flipped onto its roof.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics, including members of the critical care team, were on the scene.

They were treating three people for injuries, one of whom were trapped in their vehicle.

The highway is currently closed as emergency services deal with the crash.

It’s believed the emergency helicopter may be sent to the scene.
