Mudgeeraba residents angry about contractor ‘fail’

The actions – or inactions – of a Gold Coast City Council contractor have left locals shaking their heads over an act of sheer laziness involving new line markings on a road.

In what has been referred to as ‘the height of laziness’, a contractor in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast laid line marking paint over leaves.

Martin Webb shared a post to the Mudgeeraba Community Connect group on Facebook last month with pictures of the line marking.

Reactions on social media were mixed, ranging from laughter to theories over why it happened, with one commenter suggesting the person in charge of blowing the leaves away called in sick.

In a response to the viral post, the local government representative, Councillor Glenn Tozer, informed the group the issue would be fixed overnight and asked residents to report issues directly to him rather than just share posts on social media.

“The Manager has investigated and although it is a state controlled intersection, it was a Council contractor that undertook that work,” he said.

“It should be rectified overnight, and our superintendent has taken appropriate penalty action, in terms of the relevant contract conditions. It is well below the standards we expect.

“I’m not always on Facebook so I don’t always see these posts, but my team are on their email throughout the working day.”

The following day the councillor updated his comment advising residents the line marking was painted correctly.
