Montrachet claims No.1 restaurant in Qld with the people

The public has had its say, with almost 27,000 votes cast, so which restaurant has been named the best in Queensland by the people?

Beloved Brisbane French fine diner Montrachet has been named the best restaurant in Queensland, voted No.1 by the public in the delicious. 100 People’s Choice poll.

After the critics revealed their top 100 restaurants in the state in the annual delicious. 100 on August 6, the voting was then opened to everyday diners to have their say.

Almost 27,000 votes were cast, with the Bowen Hills restaurant, which came in at No.10 on the official list, proving the ultimate crowd favourite, beating Woolloongabba’s 1889 Enoteca in second, and Yandina’s Spirit House in third.

“You do that extra work and at that extra cost running a little restaurant like that to achieve a high standard and you always hope that it doesn’t go over everyone’s head when you do that and I think that’s the most gratifying thing of all is to see that it has been noticed,” said Shannon Kellam, who owns Montrachet with his wife Clare.

The 48-seat classical French venue spends hours each week training staff on every detail of fine dining and the restaurant’s offering, from menu items to the wine list and how to anticipate and meet customers’ wants and needs.

Mr Kellam believed it was that front-of-house experience that made the restaurant such a hit, with the critics also awarding the eatery “Best service” in the delicious.100.

“For me, the service side of it is really what separates Montrachet from the rest and the amount of work that goes into it and training,” Mr Kellam said.
