A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a crash at Woolloongabba in Brisbane’s east this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the single-vehicle crash, near Longlands and Deshon streets, around noon.

The High Acuity Response Unit was part of the team who worked on the rider at the scene.

The Queensland Ambulance Service later said no patient was taken to hospital. Police later confirmed the rider had died.

Meanwhile, a man has died and a woman is in a serious condition following a crash in Queensland’s Gympie region.

Police were called to the scene about 1.30pm today where a single vehicle had crashed into a tree on the Burnett Highway at Booubyjan, about 45km north of Goomeri.

Emergency services had to extract the two occupants of the van, a man and woman both aged in their 60s.

The woman was rushed to hospital in a serious condition with life-threatening injuries, but the man was declared dead at the scene.

And two patients were taken to hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle towing a caravan rolled on the Bruce Highway at Bowen, in the Whitsunday region. The crash happened about 1.20pm

A minor accident in Brisbane saw paramedics called to a two-vehicle crash on the Western Freeway near Mt Coot-tha Rd at Toowong.

The crash happened about 1pm. Two people were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries in a stable condition.

While the southeast Queensland crashes at Woolloongabba and Toowong caused minor delays in the areas at the time, traffic on southeast roads is relatively smooth compared with recent days.

Both the Bruce Highway and Pacific Motorway have seen four days of heavy congestion, at some times seeing heavy traffic stretching up to 40km.

This morning there was heavy traffic on the Bruce Highway around Caboolture and Beerburrum northbound as well as on the Pacific Motorway around Logan and Beenleigh southbound. By 2pm these areas were relatively clear but the stretch of the M1 from Mudgeeraba to Currumbin southbound on the Gold Coast was heavy, as it has been over the previous four days.

Drivers on the Bruce Highway were also being warned of smoke from a nearby grass fire. The fire was burning near Kawana Way Link Road between Honeyfarm Road and Rainforest Drive at Meridan Plains but could be seen on the Bruce Highway and Caloundra Rd.
