Man drowns at Tin Can Bay Esplanade near Wes Mitchell park
A Queensland community is reeling after a man’s lifeless body was pulled from the water after he drowned.
The shock discovery of a body at Tin Can Bay has rattled the local community.
Around 1.15pm on Monday, a QAS spokesman said they responded to reports of a man who had been pulled from the water “in a critical condition” along Tin Can Bay Esplanade.
The spokesman said crews tried to resuscitate the man, but “quickly realised” he had already died.
Police said the man, who was aged in his 70s, had died in the location near Wes Mitchell park, and the drowning was not being treated as suspicious.
“We had spoken to the guy who found him when the police and ambulance (were) there. May he RIP,” Michael Stapleton, who said he spoke to the man who found the body, commented on Facebook.
“Apparently he had been in the water for some time,” Mr Stapleton told this publication.
“The guy who found him (had) seen him in the water and thought he was snorkelling, but on closer looking he was dead, so he called police and ambulance.”
An anonymous poster to Facebook said they were aware children may have been in the area when the body was found.
Investigations are ongoing.
