Police are appealing for help to solve the mystery of a woman’s shocking death on the Gold Coast. The body of the 32-year-old was found on the side of the Pacific Motorway not far from a badly damaged ute.

The PolAir was used in the search for the woman’s body.

Mystery surrounds the shocking death of a woman after her body was discovered by police on the side of a Gold Coast main road, with a damaged car having been spotted kilometres away just moments earlier.

The 32-year-old woman was found dead on the side of the Pacific Motorway late on Saturday evening after a search by PolAir led police to her body.

Just moments beforehand, motorists had called Triple-0 reporting they had seen a damaged ute parked dangerously on the side of the motorway, near exit 54 at Coomera.

Police are investigating after a woman’s body was found on the side of the Pacific Motorway on Saturday night.

The Courier-Mail understands the 31-year-old male driver of the significantly damaged car told police who attended the scene he was unsure what had caused the large dent to his vehicle. This prompted a thorough search by ground police, who – with the assistance of PolAir and infra-red camera technology – located the woman’s body a short time later, near the slip lane for the Yawalpah Rd exit.

“The body of a 32-year-old woman was located nearby with investigations now underway to determine the circumstances of the death,” police said in a statement yesterday.

A police spokesman said motorists had called police claiming they had spotted a woman walking along the motorway from about 8.30pm Saturday.

The woman’s body was found shortly afterwards, about 4km away from the damaged ute, which was registered to a New South Wales address.

The Courier-Mail understands the woman was also from New South Wales, and lived in the Northern Rivers town of Casino.

It remains unclear if the man and woman were known to each other, however it is believed the pair lived in nearby towns.

One man, who drove past the scene before police had arrived, told The Courier-Mail he hadn’t realised the woman was deceased.

“(It) did not cross my mind that someone might be dead because all was so calm there,” he said.

The man said he believed the driver of another vehicle, thought to be unrelated to the incident, had pulled over to check on the woman.

“One car had hazards on and he was out standing over the person,” he said.

“ … (The) guy was not on the phone, not freaking out.”

There is no suggestion the man has any involvement in the incident.

The driver of the damaged ute was yesterday discharged from the Gold Coast University Hospital and taken to the police watch house for questioning.

No charges have been laid over the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit was yesterday leading the investigation into the mysterious death of the woman, however other QPS departments, including Scenes of Crime were also assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the area between 8.30pm and 9.40pm Saturday to contact them.
