A Christmas light show north of Brisbane has been forced to shut down after flooding caused hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.
The owners of High Impact Lighting, who have worked with the Brisbane Broncos, have said the debut light show venture at Pine Rivers Park will have to close.
Husband and wife and owners Ash and Chloe Neuendorf said they had created the interactive, Christmas themed light experience ‘Magical Christmas’ with love and passion, and they were devastated by the impact of floodwaters.
“Magical Christmas was created as a space for families to celebrate the wonder of the season,” Ms Neuendorf said.
“This unexpected turn of events has been devastating for us, but the safety and well-being of our community remain our top priority.”
The pair thanked the community for their support of the event, which started on December 13 and was expected to continue until Sunday. It closed this morning after four shows.
Colleague Mike Woodrow said the company wanted to provide northsiders with a local alternative to CBD light shows.
“It was a new initiative with all the hopes and risks that come with that,” Mr Woodrow said.
“The flooding caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage. The water came up to the light installations, ruined infrastructure like fencing and marquees, portaloos, four big generators and also flooded food trucks of other small businesses who were part of the event.”
Councillor Cath Tonks said she was sorry to see the event shut down.
“Your event was spectacular and looking forward to seeing you all again next year,” Cr Tonks said.
Mr and Mrs Neuendorf said they were “already looking ahead to 2025 and can’t wait to share exciting new plans with you then”.
The company will be offering full refunds.
