A two-time reality TV contestant who sensationally beat an assault charge has died suddenly.
Lachlan Rofe, who appeared on Married At First Sight in 2015 and Farmer Wants A Wife the following year, was found guilty in 2017 of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Casey Williams in front of her two-year-old daughter after a heavy drinking session.
He was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond but appealed the ruling.
“Being a man of principal, I chose to clear my name,” he said in 2018 after a magistrate quashed the guilty verdict.
Loved ones of Mr Rofe, who also used the surname McAleer, confirmed his death on social media.
It is understood Mr Rofe, who was in his late 40s and ran a cattle farm in Cawdor, near Camden in NSW, suffered significant distress over the court ordeals.
After he was cleared of the assault charge, he told Channel 7: “I’m too scared to even go see women ‘cos I just feel with everything that’s happened, I just feel like I’m a target.”
After his reality TV appearances, Mr Rofe briefly dated Belinda Reid, whom he met on Farmer Wants A Wife, and pig hunter Natalie Cepenuik, who made headlines of her own after she posted on social media a photo of her with a dead joey’s neck in her mouth.
In 2016, Mr Rofe’s family property was investigated for alleged illegal tree clearing but the local council declined to comment on the outcome of the probe.
Mr Rofe said at the time: “Everything has been cleared in line with legislation; people are just jealous of me because I’ve got fame.”
Mr Rofe’s cause of death has not been announced.
