The mining health and safety watchdog has returned a Central Queensland mine site back to its owner’s hands following the tragic death of a worker.
The worker, a man believed to be a contractor, suffered a heart attack on site at Sojitz Gregory Crinum mine and sadly died on Monday morning of a “suspected medical episode”, according to Resources Safety and Health Queensland.
An inspector attended the site to confirm the death was not related to work activities, and left the mine by 5:30pm.
“An RSHQ directive to isolate the scene has been lifted and the site has been handed back to the mine,” an RSHQ spokeswoman said.
Emergency crews were called to the open-cut coal mine located about 60km north east of Emerald at 6.30am Monday.
A QAS spokeswoman said the crew was called to an address in Lilyvale for patient suffering a medical event.
Mine owner Sojitz Blue has been contacted for comment.
