Amanda's family are glad to finally have justice

ANTONY Daniel Morseu was in a jealous rage the morning he stabbed his former girlfriend to death.

Armed with a knife in each hand, the then 43-year-old followed Amanda Kay Sauney, 25, from house to house in Dapplewood Cl, Andergrove, where she lived, stabbing her multiple times.

When she hid behind a family member or neighbour, Morseu would stab her around the other person.

He was heard telling a neighbour, "I don't want to stab you, I just want to stab that (expletive)."

Afterwards, he slit his own throat.

More than two years later, Moreau, now 45, was jailed for life after pleading guilty in the Supreme Court in Mackay yesterday to murder.

Morseu had been in a relationship with Ms Sauney until a few weeks before her death.

When it ended, she began a new relationship with Morseu's nephew, crown prosecutor Nigel Rees said.

The night before her murder he told several people, including members of Ms Sauney's family, that he was "going to kill her" and he didn't care if he went to prison, Mr Rees said.

Morseu's attack began about 5am on December 18, 2010, after he followed her into her home.

When she ran, he chased her, all the time stabbing her with the knives. He stabbed her six times, fatally to her neck. She was found lying on a mattress in a neighbour's home. Police found Sauney face down in Elm Dr. He told officers "let me die", the court heard.

Defence barrister Frank Richards said the suicide attempt had left him with a scar, "a constant reminder of that (day) and the terrible thing he has done".

"He's deeply sorry for what he's done... (the) only hope for his future... is that one day he might be to some extent forgiven for what he has done."

Morseu has little memory of the incident. The court heard it was believed his blood alcohol reading was between 0.106% and 0.216%.

In a statement read out in court, Morseu said, he hoped his penalty would allow Ms Sauney's family and friends to move on with their lives.

Justice Duncan McMeekin said it was a "senseless attack on a vibrant young woman" that was "motivated by jealously" and "fuelled by drugs and alcohol probably".

"You have devastated a huge number of people by your actions," Justice McMeekin said. "There's only one sentence I can impose and that is of life imprisonment."

AMANDA'S FAMILY

A PHOTO of Amanda Kay Sauney was carried into court by her family, who gathered to hear her murderer's sentence.

Two of her relatives sat behind Antony Daniel Morseu, the man who killed her in late 2010, and held the picture high.

Nikita Sauney tearfully said she held up the photo because: "I wanted her to be in there and get her justice."

Described by one of her sisters as a beautiful, intelligent and shy 25-year-old, who loved music, Amanda was stabbed to death by Morseu early on December 18.

The pair had formerly been in a relationship.

It was an emotional day for her family.

Some openly wept as the details of Amanda's last moments were read aloud in the Supreme Court in Mackay.

Family members breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when Justice Duncan McMeekin sentenced Morseu to life imprisonment for his "senseless" crime.

"Today heals a lot of pain for my family," Amanda's sister Colleen Sauney said yesterday, after the sentence had been read.

"Now we can move on with our lives."
