Woman injured after tree falls on parked car in Airlie Beach

A woman has been taken to hospital after a bizarre incident in the Airlie Beach main strip where a tree as fallen on a parked car.

Two women in their 20s had been sitting on the back of the vehicle when it occurred on Coral Esplanade.

Paramedics were called about 9.30am Friday and as a result called fire crews to help make the area safe and retrieve one of the women from under the fallen tree.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said by the time crews arrived both women had been removed from under the tree and so fire officers helped to make the area safe.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the incident occurred near the Beach Rd and Shute Harbour Rd intersection.

She said the two women had been sitting on the back of the vehicle when the tree fell.

Paramedics assessed both women and one was taken to Proserpine hospital in a stable condition.

The other woman was not injured.
