SARINA nurse Tammi O’Shea is passionate about her community and its hospital.
Ms O’Shea grew up in Sarina and has worked at the local hospital since she graduated from university eight years ago.
Now working in the role of nurse unit manager, she said caring for the community was something she always wanted to do growing up.
“I knew that was the career path I wanted to go down,” Ms O’Shea said.
“I have worked here for the past eight years, so I understand what the community needs and we’re trying to take that into the new hospital build.
“The community has been waiting a long time for the new hospital and from what I’ve heard, the feedback on it has been pretty positive.”
Ms O’Shea said the new facility would provide more comfort for patients with easier access, rather than the steep hill the current hospital has been built on.
“Definitely it will be easier for them to access externally,” she said.
“There will also be more single rooms with ensuites, which is something we don’t have in the current facility.”
While the new hospital will be built with community in mind, Ms O’Shea said staff would benefit too.
“It’s going to provide more modern facilities – more space to work and improved work flow,” she said.
