Traffic lights at a major intersection are flashing amber as Friday peak out hits Mackay

The lights are out at a major Mackay intersection as Friday peak hour traffic hits leading into school holidays.

The lights are flashing amber at a major Mackay intersection as workers hit the road in the Friday afternoon rush.

A police spokeswoman said the police were en route to the Sydney and Gordon St intersection to direct traffic.

The spokeswoman said a concerned member of the public reported the issue at 2.53pm.

She said the person had reported “a fair few near misses”.

Police are urging drivers to use caution.
