Toot toot: All aboard for new Mackay playground

The train-themed design has equipment for the toddlers and the older kids including a signed bike track

A NEW train-themed playground will soon be rolling into a Mackay suburb with play equipment for kids of all ages.

Mackay Regional Council has released its plans to replace the existing playground at Canecutters Drive Park at Ooralea with a bright, multi-station design.

It includes a “train-themed climbing unit for the younger children and a challenging climbing tower for the older kids.”

“There will also be a new learn to ride bike track complete with more train-themed line marking and signage for beginner bike riders”.

The design stage is close to being finalised and is part of a wider overhaul of Canecutters Drive Park.

After the playground is installed, stage two will involve creating a new Fitness Hub at the northern end of the park including cross-fit training equipment.

The third and final stage includes replacing plants with others the council hopes will encourage birds and other wildlife.
