Adani will fail
IT IS not a matter of if, but when.
The problem is how much damage will be done in the meantime. Just Stop Adani now, and save your water, time, money and hope for something that is actually good for Queensland.
Wouldn’t it be great to have some real leadership in 2020? Leadership that actually takes action to make the world, the country and our town a better place right now and for future generations?
Can you imagine what a healthy, happy and prosperous future looks like? One where our water is not wasted on washing coal, or poisoned for gas, where our heat records are not broken every year, a future where we can breathe the air, drink the water and grow food. A future where we can survive and thrive. That would be nice.
Let’s not trash the place. Let’s stop Adani, stop fracking and go renewable. We need to treasure our natural wonders and sustainable industries or we will have no future at all.
Water is more valuable than coal. Leaders, please turn the ship and set course for a better direction in 2020. We would all much appreciate not being led to our doom.

Heartening Christmas
IT IS with gratitude that I say ‘thanks for making my Christmas’ to all those friends, acquaintances, mainly professional persons, who welcomed me and my homemade gifts with a few minutes of their time and with open arms, a hug or handshake, or both. You all make up for those few who did not appreciate my thoughtfulness or say thank you. I do hope you all find the New Year invigorating, safe, happy and healthy.

Meat eaters eat peas too
IN A bid to demonstrate that vegans are responsible for more animal cruelty than meat eaters, KS of Mackay draws attention to the number of animals killed in the production of fruit and vegetables – especially peas (DM 28/12/19).
But don’t meat eaters also eat these foods? In addition to this, since 33 per cent of agricultural land worldwide is used solely for the production of livestock feed, those who eat animal products must accept responsibility for the deaths of all animals killed in its production. And if this conversation is about “cruelty” we need to consider the suffering of farmed animals throughout their entire lives. The majority are severely confined, subjected to agonising mutilations and deprived of all joy and pleasure in life. At least the animals killed in the production of plant foods will have enjoyed a natural life up until the day they die.

Water approvals
A CHINESE company operating under the wonderful name ‘Joyful View Garden Real Estate Development Resort Pty Ltd’ has just won approval from the State Government to harvest 96m litres of water a year in the Darling Downs. It will be bottled on the Gold Coast.
Yes, you read that correctly: When Queensland is in drought and fossil-fuel driven climate change is turning the state into a dust bowl, permission is granted for one company to bottle 96m litres of water every year.
Once again, our State Government is shown as playing with our precious natural resources for the sake of making money – just as they did when they agreed with Adani being given 12.5b litres of water a year in order to settle dust at their mine and wash coal.
To make irrational decision about our precious water is beyond irresponsible. It is criminal.
