Two sets of parents received the phone call everyone recently, hearing their children were involved in a very serious crash.
Halie Taylor, 17 and boyfriend Rauiri Unwin, 18, as well as his younger brother Quinlan were driving along Peakvale Rd, near the Theresa Creek Dam, Clermont on May 19.
Emergency services had reported the car rolled multiple times at a bend in the road after the driver lost control at 11:30am.
Both Halie and Rauiri were in critical conditions following the crash and had to be flown to two different hospitals, while Quinlan “miraculously” remained almost unscathed and was sent to Clermont Hospital.
A GoFundMe page was organised for both families in support, as their children are now in need of various surgeries.
Halie sustained multiple fractures and ligament damage from a dislocated knee, and has needed various surgeries at Townsville University Hospital.
Rauiri was flown from the scene directly to Brisbane after he was sedated.
He has sustained a shattered femur and dislocated hip.
Halie’s mum Rachel Olsson said they both have a very long recovery ahead of them “to be able to walk again”.
“They are in need of support to cover medical expenses, mobility equipment, and travel costs for their families to be by their side during this trying time,” the GoFundMe page states.
“Capella, Clermont and Surrounds: It’s time to come together as a community to offer our support and make a difference in the lives of these young survivors.
“Any donation, big or small, will make a meaningful impact and bring hope to Halie, Rauiri, and their families.”
