RUGBY LEAGUE: The surname Bella breeds success, and one of the youngest bearing the name has confirmed the family's genetic skill with a ball in hand.

Like her uncle and Queensland Origin legend Martin Bella, young Emily Bella has the knack for rugby league and has also proven more than capable in Aussie rules, like cousin Lauren Bella who runs with the Brisbane Lions AFLW squad.

In rugby league, Bella led the under-14 Mackay Junior Cutters side through the North Queensland Championships in Townsville undefeated.

Bella, who co-captained the team, was selected for the North Queensland Marlins' state carnival side from the championship in June.

There, she and the Marlins came second with two wins, falling just short of the Heather Ballinger Shield to South East Queensland Water Dragons.

Bella's accolades didn't stop there, finding success on home fields when she and her league club, Wanderers, doubled up on their 2017 grand-final premiership after defeating Norths in a harsh 30-14 denial.

On the Aussie rules front, Bella travelled to Maroochydore with Mercy College Mackay in the Tribal Sport AFL Queensland Schools Cup state finals after being coined North Queensland champions in the earlier months.

While her Aussie rules experience only dates back a year, Bella was said to have the potential to match her cousin.

"I coached Lauren and at the same age Emily is better,” team coach Dave Hay told the Daily Mercury.

To end the year on a high note, Bella was selected into the Queensland Academy of Sport under-15 female squad for 2019.

The program brings together 53 of the state's most talented players on January 18-21 in Brisbane to use the best facilities and learn from league's best.
