It may not be a bitter rivalry but bragging rights as well as vital Aaron Payne Cup points were on the line when Mackay State High School took on Mercy and St Patrick’s College on Wednesday. WATCH THE REPLAYS!

It may not be a bitter rivalry, but bragging rights among mates and vital competition points will be on the line in this year’s Mackay school derby.

The schools will do battle at Mackay Junior Rugby League fields on Wednesday night, with Mackay State High School (MSHS) and Mercy College opening proceedings in the Cowboys Challenge at 5pm.

REPLAY: Mackay SHS v Mercy College in the Cowboys Challenge

This schoolboys season will be Mercy’s final as a standalone school before its merger with St Patrick’s College. 

Mercy are the defending champions, but have lost several key players from last year’s premiership winning side.

MSHS will then take on St Pat’s in the Aaron Payne Cup at 6.15pm.

In last year’s opening round encounter MSHS lost by 36 points in both encounters.
