Move over New York, the title of the city that never sleeps belongs to Mackay after a crazy schedule of sport that saw two professional leagues and many community organisations showcase their skills.

As incredible as it was to have both the Women’s Big Bash league and the Professional Bull Riding circuit pass through Mackay at the weekend, some of the region’s community sports have also been lighting it up, and the following are just some of the results from this past week.

A massive congratulations to all those who competed, and good luck to any moving on to the nationals later in the year.

HOCKEY, AFL

One of Mackay’s top young talents was given her shot in a national league competition, travelling over to Perth to show why she is one of the best in her discipline.

Making her debut as a part of the Brisbane Blaze in Hockey, Mackay’s own Jordan Bliss took the competition by storm as the goalie kept Perth scoreless to help the Blaze bring up their first win of the competition.

On the theme of debutants, Mackay women in sport continued to dominate with Kaylee Kimber also finding her way into the team for the Gold Coast Suns AFLW across the weekend, earning her spot in the 22-strong team.

Although suffering a big loss, Kimber stood her own and may find herself a regular in the side.
