The Meteors may be sitting pretty in second place on the NBL1 North ladder, but discussions are being had about adding pieces for the second half of the season.

Mackay won its first match of a double-header this weekend against Sunshine Coast 102-93, with Jerron Jamerson starring with 25 points.

Meteors coach Joel Khalu said the side was playing well, but he wanted to potentially add extra players to his squad.

“We’re still looking to see if we add in any pieces to the puzzle,” Khalu said.

“We’re pretty comfortable with the squad as it is, but we need someone who can do that and offer some size up front to help out Manny (Malou) and Harry (Froling).”

Froling was in foul trouble in the second half, with the Phoenix eroding a 15-point deficit with the NBL star off the court.

He still finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists off 23 minutes.

Perth Wildcat Jarred Bairstow joined Sunshine Coast after the NBL finals finished on Friday, with the forward scoring 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds in his debut for the NBL1 side.

The Meteors will play USC Rip City on Sunday before their road trip finishes, and Khalu said the minutes could be adjusted following a tough match.

“We’ll have to look at managing the guys’ minutes, there will be some tired legs there tomorrow,” he said.

“We’ll make adjustments as the game goes along, and fortunately we have guys who can step up when called upon.”
