SURF LIFESAVING: Mackay's surf lifesavers will be off and running on Saturday to try to become the Fastest Man on Sand.
More than 130 competitors, from Sarina to Townsville, will head to Eimeo Beach for the Fastest Man on Sand and Board carnival.
Age groups from under-8s to opens will be sprinting it out on the sand as part of a series of five rounds across the state.
Eimeo Surf Lifesaving Club administrator Claire Chapman encourages everyone to go and watch.
"Eight surf lifesaving clubs from Sarina to Forest Beach will be here," Chapman said.
"There will be a lot of Mackay talent in the carnival."
Mackay Surf Lifesaving has entered 28 people into the carnival, where Brotherson will be looking to have an improved performance after he made the Flags final at the Southern Ocean's 38 competition last week.
"I'm hoping to win in the board event but mainly just to have fun," he said.
The board event will see competitors take to the water, and paddle around the course on a longboard.
The Fastest Man on Sand and Board carnival counts towards being selected for the state team competing in Hervey Bay in March.
"It's a good chance for me to make the state team so I'll be trying my hardest to win," Brotherson said.
Beach sprints and flags will also be on show.
The carnival is from 9.30am-3pm.
