Gibbs Air Crocs and Custom Fluidpower Mudcrabs are all set for a grand final clash in Friday night’s Porters Mitre 10 Mackay T20 Smash, and now it’s time to reflect on how the two teams got to this point.
In a game that was hopefully a sign of things to come for the grand final, the Crocs bested the Mudcrabs on the very last ball of their round one clash.
However, the Mudcrabs quickly discovered their strongest form with the bat come round two, losing just one wicket on their way to a comfortable run chase against CiteCon Kingfishers.
The Crocs continued their strong form early with another close win, this time getting over the line with five balls to spare against BTB Electrical Breakers.
However, they hit a road bump in round three, as the Kingfishers piled on the runs via Darryn Dyer’s 144 not out off 65, with the Crocs set the impossible task of chasing a 241-run target.
The round four rematch between the two sides was another thriller, with the Crocs pulling off another successful run chase, this time with just two balls remaining.
The Mudcrabs went through the remainder of the last two rounds undefeated, while the Kingfishers once again proved to be the Achilles heel of the Crocs thanks to another monster innings from Dyer.
The Crocs have had the wood over the Mudcrabs in both their clashes, but with a combined three balls separating the two sides across both games it’s fair to say that both teams should be confident they’ve got what it takes to climb the mountain on Friday night.
The grand final kicks off at 6.30pm.
