The Aaron Payne Cup is almost at the end of its regular-season matches and teams are starting to jostle for finals positions in the tournament.
Mackay was set to host two games of Aaron Payne Cup football, with St Patrick’s College scheduled to play Rockhampton Grammar School.
With the developing Covid-19 cluster in South East Queensland and its potential spread to Central Queensland, the game has been postponed.
St Pat’s suffered two losses in recent weeks, dropping games to Ignatius Park and The Cathedral College and coach Michael Comerford said the boys were keen to make amends for scrappy form.
The side led The Cathedral College 14-0 in the first half, but the strong start overturned quickly, with the home side flexing its muscles after falling behind.
REPLAY: Cowboys Challenge – Ignatius Park v St Brendan
The Cathedral College held an 18-14 lead at half time, scoring three tries in the final 15 minutes of the first half, before pulling out to a dominant 36-18 victory on home soil.
Rockhampton Grammar has been out of form as well, with the side losing 72-4 against Ignatius Park in its previous Aaron Payne Cup match.
Ignatius Park will play St Brendan’s in Mackay as well, with the Townsville and Yeppoon sides on different sides of the ledger in their last games.
Iggy Park continues to firm as a contender after its dominant win against Rockhampton Grammar, while St Brendan’s lost to Kirwan 32-10 in Mackay.
Mackay State High School was set to play Shalom College in Rockhampton, but the match was also postponed until a later date.
