Mackay Cricket’s junior season is now in the history books, with grand finals across all grades completed over the weekend.
After inclement weather pushed the season finale back a week, it was Walkerston who prevailed in the under-17s, defeating Proserpine by 33 runs at Great Barrier Reef Arena.
Meanwhile, in the under-15s it was Norths who prevailed over Proserpine in a nailbiter, winning by 5 runs at George Gorrie Oval.
In the under-13s, Souths produced a convincing 10 wicket win over Proserpine, while Sarina defeated Proserpine in under-12s.
See which players stepped up for their side’s in the under-17s and 15s.
Under-17s
Ben Garner (Walkerston) - 64 (57)
Involved in the monster 135-run opening stand that set up Walkerston’s victory, Garner struck eight boundaries in his game-high score.
Ayden Loader (Walkerston) - 56 (58)
The other half of the first wicket partnership that set the game up for the Roosters, Loader saved his best innings of the season for last, with six fours and a six at almost a run-a-ball.
Ben Valmadre (Proserpine) - 55 (51)
Ultimately wasn’t able to lift his side to victory, but stood tall with a strong half-century and an 83-run partnership with Donovan Pettiford (35) before ultimately succumbing.
Under-15s
Bodie Pershouse (Norths) - 2/24 (5 overs)
Pershouse was a reliable frontline bowler for his side as the only player to bowl five overs, and he secured two wickets for his troubles on top.
Matthew Logan (Proserpine) - 40* (53)
Logan produced for Proserpine at the top of the order, sadly for them it wasn’t enough to help them to chase down their 122-run target.
Brock Childs (Proserpine) - 2/20 (5 overs)
His stats don’t jump off the page, but Childs was reliable with ball in hand for his side.
