The Mackay Sports Foundation (MSF) has received a major boost in its coffers, with the Two Worlds Collide fundraising event raising a grand total of $25,000.
The money is set to go towards supporting young athletes, coaches and officials from the Mackay, Whitsunday, and Isaac regions through MSF’s travel grant program.
The primary objective is to help the next generation of superstar athletes to be able to travel to compete at national and international events.
Queensland sporting icons Carl Rackemann, Allan Langer, Jimmy Maher and Michael Kasprowicz were in attendance at the event at Harrup Park celebrating the announcement.
“It’s incredible to see a region so invested in its sporting future,” Kasprowicz said.
“The Mackay Sports Foundation is giving young athletes the chance to pursue their dreams without financial barriers, and events like this make all the difference.”
Maher, who along with being a former Australian men’s cricketer is also the current managing director of Bulls Masters, echoed the sentiments of Kasprowicz, saying he was glad the community was “working together for a common cause and collectively achieving positive outcomes.”
“This was a fantastic four days for the Bulls Masters to be involved in the Mackay Community. From a free coaching camp to a volunteers forum and the fundraiser, there was something in this for everyone.
“We would like to acknowledge the support provided to the Bulls Masters from Mackay Cricket, Harrup Park and the Mackay Regional Council.”
Applications for the travel grants are now open, and will close on March 1.
