GO KARTING: The Mackay Kart Club held their Whitsunday Titles at the weekend, with more than 70 drivers on track.
Racing was close all weekend in the Junior National Light class which saw Mackay driver Declan Fraser have a near perfect weekend.
He topped the time sheets in qualifying and stayed out in front for all the heats, pre-final and final.
It was a well-deserved win for Declan who has been doing a lot of racing this year at the state level.
Behind Declan was an angry pack of about a dozen drivers with young local Riley Le Garde, who has just made the step up to juniors from cadet 12, giving Townsville driver Raith Sheerans a real fight to the line.
Raith only just managing to hold off Riley for second in the final.
The racing further down the field was also great to watch with Jayden Muir (Mackay), Nathan Hadlow (Whitsunday) and Nicholas Garioch (Mackay) putting on a fine display of kart control, often swapping position from one corner to the next. The small but enthusiastic crowd really seemed to enjoy the show.
Some of the other Mackay winners included Dylan Le Garde (Cadet 9 winner), Jason Price (Sportsman Heavy winner) and Shannon Price (TAG 125 Heavy).
The club will run their next race meeting on November 29 with racing from 9am.
