HOCKEY: Some of the state's top coaches, including Wes Ferns and Lewis Dexter, hosted an Indigenous hockey camp in Mackay at the weekend.
Queensland Scorcher's Kazzia Lammon was also there, coaching Mackay juniors at the camp.
The coaches worked with the players on their individual technique in terms of stick drills, striking for goals and trapping balls.
The camp was funded by MARABISDA Inc in partnership with PCYC Mackay, facilitated by Sam Bliss who is chairperson of both organisations.
Ms Bliss said there was a lack of indigenous participants in hockey so this camp had been aimed at children from Aboriginal, Torres Strait and South Sea Islander backgrounds.
"It gives them the opportunity to develop their skills and technique and assist with their dreams in becoming representative players in the sport,” she said.
Ms Bliss hoped the camp would attract more players to get involved.
"Not only just in hockey, but sport in general, to better their quality of life and health,” she said.
