A young Mackay man who took a big step towards his dream of being a personal trainer wants to become “super, super big” and one day own his own gym.
South African-born Janco Griesel completed his Certificate III in Fitness training with CQUniversity and is already studying for the Cert IV.
The 18 year old, a recent graduate of Northern Beaches State High School, said school was where his passion for fitness began.
“Got into fitness in grade 11 (and) found a liking in it,” he said.
“I was gymming in my spare time as well, like after school and after work.
“So I decided once I finished my Certificate III, I’m going to pursue the Cert IV.
“And it’s going well so far.”
Mr Griesel said it was fun learning to develop training routines and he hoped to encourage people to hit up the gym.
“I’ve asked many people and they say gym’s not really for me,” he said.
“(They) are afraid people are going to look at them weird
“And it’s really not like that.
“I’ve always had friendly encounters with people at the gym.
“I find it a really positive place.”
Mr Griesel said he often would have a “quick chat” to compliment other gym-goers if they were doing well, likely contributing to a friendly environment.
Mr Griesel said he was studying the certificate IV at CQUniversity while also starting the first year of an auto electrician apprenticeship.
“Eventually, I want to own my own gym,” he said.
“That’s end goals.
“But I also want to get super, super big.
“Like IFBB Pro Bodybuilder, just become like really massive.”
