Alana Gee’s draft prospects look as strong as ever after she capped off an impressive Under-18 National Carnival for Queensland with All-Australian and Most Valuable Player honours.
The former North Mackay Saints junior is based on the Gold Coast where she is a member of the Gold Coast Suns Academy.
Widely believed to be the top prospect out of Queensland in this year’s AFLW Draft, Gee averaged 24 disposals over the three games.
Following her 26 disposal best-on-ground performance in Queensland’s 50-point win over the Allies, she was awarded the state’s MVP.
Adding to the accolades, Gee was named on the wing in the tournament’s All-Australian team, putting her in the company of some of the very best women's footballers in the country.
Gee remained modest when asked about her performance.
“I think I did all right. I was pretty stoked to get it (MVP) and definitely wasn’t expecting it that’s for sure,” Gee said.
The midfielder explaining that the level of competition was exciting to play against, noting the Vic Metro girls provided a great challenge
“It was really hard but Queensland put their best foot forward and we got a few wins,” Gee said.
“It definitely made me have to step up my game to match everyone else's.”
Since moving to the Gold Coast, Gee has begun studying secondary teaching at university and is playing with the Southport Sharks.
She said adapting to her new lifestyle and managing her priorities was something she was doing “pretty well”.
“It isn’t that hard to balance things. But, I am trying to focus on footy at the moment because the draft is coming up soon,” Gee said.
As a member of the Suns Academy, the club will get first access to her when it comes time to be drafted.
At this stage, all signs are pointing to her staying in the red, gold and blue moving forward.
Gee said irrespective of where her AFLW career took her, part of her heart would always be with her “Sainters” in Mackay.
