Seth's very special wish granted

AS seven-year-old Seth Hoey unwrapped his presents from the Mackay Make-A-Wish foundation branch yesterday, he could not wipe the smile off his face.

AS seven-year-old Seth Hoey unwrapped his presents from the Mackay Make-A-Wish foundation branch yesterday, he could not wipe the smile off his face.

But underneath that smile is a strong battler who will face his sixth open heart surgery operation in February at the Children’s Mater Hospital in Brisbane.

Seth, who was born with a hypoplastic left heart, which means one side of his heart did not develop properly, was granted a laptop computer, printer and a computer game yesterday afternoon at the Mackay Regional Botanical Gardens from the Make-A-Wish fairy.

Showing off his new computer to his friends, Seth was so grateful for his new toy.

“It’s so cool,” he said.

“I will now be able to check out new websites that I’ve never seen before.

“I am going to Brisbane after Christmas so it’s cool I will be able to take it with me and when I get bored at home I will just be able to go downstairs and play games on my computer.”

Seth’s mum Chantele Hoey said her first child had his first open heart surgery when he was six days old.

“For what Seth has been through he is just a happy-go-lucky boy who is very strong,” she said.

“The laptop computer is the perfect gift for him, especially when he goes back into hospital in February.

“It means he is able to keep in contact with his friends and family back here via email.”

Young Seth was the seventh wish to be granted from the Mackay Make-A-Wish foundation this year.
