RESOURCE Industry Network chairman Tony Caruso hasn't ticked off all the items on his election wish list yet.

The industry group has welcomed a $3.6 million election commitment from the major parties to build a Resources Centre of Excellence in Mackay; but while Mr Caruso said having the only underground coal mine simulator in Australia would be a "game changer” he couldn't overlook other issues plaguing the mining sector.

He put his wish list to State Innovation Minister Leeanne Enoch, ALP Member for Mackay Julieanne Gilbert and candidate for Whitsunday Bronwyn Taha at a press conference on Monday.

Better roads to and from the Port of Mackay are top priority, along with completion of the Mackay Ring Road including stages two and three.

If larger trucks were able to access the port, he said, businesses could become more efficient, which would make the resources sector in Queensland more competitive internationally.

"Also, any opportunities to unlock the current labour shortage we have at the moment, whether it is incentives to get people back into jobs or something else,” he said. "Payment terms is another issue plaguing the industry.”
