LOOKING for a "new" car?

Council is set to auction off more than 50 abandoned cars, in all states of wear, at Ness St in West Mackay in July.

The owners of these vehicles have until July 10 to contact Mackay Regional Council to arrange to pay for the release of their car.

But if they fail to do that, then their cars will be sold at a public auction on July 24.

Those interested in viewing the vehicles can do so on July 20 from 2pm to 4pm.

The official auction kicks off at 9am sharp on July 24.

All attendees must be wearing covered in shoes, be over 16 years old and sign in to be able to enter the impound yard.

The last car auction, held in April, was packed with action as scrap metal recyclers competed with car enthusiasts for top pick of the litter.

Scrap steel scavengers raked in thousands in profit as the price per tonne hits its highest in eight years.

The owner or another person acting on the owner's behalf, or any other person claiming a right to the possession of a vehicle should contact Council's Health & Regulatory Services Section on 1300 622 529 to organise for the release of the vehicle.
