Police have made a public appeal nearly two weeks after a Whitsunday mum was reported missing by her family on June 1.
Celeste McGain was reportedly in “good spirits” when she was last seen by family at her Woodwark home about 2pm on Saturday, May 25.
She moved to the Whitsundays in February to move in with her three sons, who are between 25 and 18 years old.
Detective Acting Sergeant Georgie Carland, Acting OIC of the Whitsunday Criminal Investigation Branch, made a direct appeal for Ms McGain to contact her family.
“We’re asking that if you are watching this Celeste, you contact your family by any means you feel comfortable,” Acting Sgt Carland said.
“I’ve spoken recently with your sister Kate and she’s described the type of person that you are as being really kind and outgoing,
“She’s really worried, as are your sons.
“They just want to know that you’re okay.”
Acting Sgt Carland also urged residents around the Woodwark area to check home CCTV or dashcam footage from May 25 to the present in the event it may show Ms McGain, and to provide that footage to police.
When asked if Ms McGain was a regular swimmer in the area, Acting Sgt Carland said her sister had told them she had been a representive swimmer in high school.
Ms McGain had moved to the region from northern New South Wales, where the rest of her family still reside and where she regularly visited.
“Celeste was reported missing when family were unable to establish contact with her and became concerned as she left some personal belongings behind,” Acting Sgt Carland said.
“Celeste has lead a relatively private lifestyle and she is known to travel without notifying family members, (which) adds challenges.
“(But) it’s out of character because she doesn’t have her personal belongings, which including a mobile phone, bank card (and) had no known registered vehicles.”
Police are not treating her disappearance as suspicious “at this time” but are concerned for her welfare.
