Mackay’s hockey prowess will be on show with five young athletes making into state squads.
Kaleb Mayfield, Haiden Mellifont, Jack Kearines, Sam Riggs, and Matthew Miles have all earned their spot in U18 teams at the Australia Championships held in Hobart in July.
It comes after each put in solid performances at the Chemist Warehouse State Championships recently held in Townsville.
Four of the Mackay boys are in team lineups while one is a shadow player, but all are experienced at the ready to prove Queensland has what it takes.
This will be Mayfield’s fourth time donning the Maroon colours at a national level, making him the most experienced of the Mackay recruits.
Also with prior state-level representation under their belts are Riggs and Melifont, with Melifont also picking up the U18 Coach’s Award in January.
Kearines has previously competed at a national level.
