One of Mackay’s most popular Japanese restaurant has applied to expand its outdoor seating.
Bing’s Nomiya has been on Victoria Street for seven years and is continuing to grow into the new year.
Documents submitted to Mackay Regional Council on December 1 state the restaurant hopes to host special events.
“The proposed development will include events centred around the serving of food and beverages,” documents state.
“The events will be split into two categories, weekly barbecues and inner city ‘dining under the stars’ (and quarterly) special events.
“Special events will be conducted on an ad hoc basis and align with significant calendar dates such as Chinese New Year, New Year’s Eve, and night markets.
“These events would also utilise the existing carpark area and could include such things like live music, sport event screenings and food/market stalls.”
There are currently 16 carparks, one of which is a disabled bay.
Documents state five will be converted as part of the proposal, with carparking reduced to 10 bays.
Special events will allow for 200-300 patrons with the existing restaurant providing toilets.
The Victoria St expansion comes three years after Bing’s Nomiya Mini opened in Northern Beaches.
The highly anticipated restaurant came as owner Bing Guo said it would be “a place for families, or a quick meal”.
