Police are investigating a car fire after a torched vehicle was found beneath a busy Mackay overpass.
Emergency services were called to the underside of Mackay Ring Rd, near Landsowne Rd, Te Kowai, just before 8.30am.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said when crews arrived they found the car well involved and immediately worked to extinguish it, putting out the blaze by 8.39am.
Police arrived to the scene and the officer in charge, Sergeant Clinton Skillington, said they identified it as a car which was stolen a couple of days ago.
When asked if police believed the fire was the result of arson Sergeant Skillington said yes.
“We believe this is suspicious circumstances,” Sergeant Skillington said.
Police are investigating and Sergeant Skillington said they had intelligence about people who may be committing offences in the area, but said it was “premature” to nominate anybody as a suspect.
“I just ask the public to be mindful of their own house and vehicle security,” he said.
“Keep your house locked at all times, keep your cars locked at all times.”
