A suspected stolen car will be investigated after being set aflame just outside a cane field near Mackay.

Police were called to the intersection of Yakapari-Habana Rd and Ollets Rd just after 8:30am to reports of a suspected stolen vehicle on fire.

The car was found in Ollets Road Park, a small clearing between two cane fields with multiple rail lines crossing through it.

It was reported to police that the fire had already been extinguished by the morning rain, so Queensland Fire and Emergency Service was not tasked to the area.

But at 10:30 the fire reignited, with firefighters arriving on the scene shortly after to extinguish it.

The fire left soot in the mud and scorched surrounding sugar cane.

Firefighters had left the scene by 10:45am and police left shortly after, with the burnout vehicle in tow.

Police on the scene confirmed that no persons had been harmed.

More to come.
