Police have declared a crime scene after a Pioneer Valley woman died in a house fire overnight at Eungella.

Emergency crews were called to a Schumanns Rd property following reports of a fire about 5.20pm Thursday.

It is understood police believe a husband and wife live at the address.

The man is aged 69 and the woman is 57.

Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said since the fire was reported the woman had not been located.

“Police hold grave concerns that she was in the premises at the time of the fire,” Senior Sergeant Eaton said early Friday.

Police have now confirmed a woman in her 50s was inside the property, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

A crime scene has been declared and forensic examinations are under way, to determine the cause of the blaze.

Investigations remain ongoing and anyone with further information is urged to contact police.
