A West Mackay miner was found with six vials of anabolic steroids he claimed he had ‘bought from a friend overseas’.
When asked why William Carrington Stuar Cumming had the illegal substances, he told Acting Magistrate John Aberdeen the steroids were “to go to the gym, and you know, to get bigger”.
The court heard police found the vials in a tupperware container when they visited Cumming’s house on May 17 for an unrelated matter.
Police found two different steroids in the vials including the substances transacatone acetate and testosterone propionate.
Cumming, 23, appeared in Mackay Magistrate Court on Thursday August 5 where he pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous drug.
Cumming represented himself and argued the vials were 10ml rather than 100ml but Mr Aberdeen still regarded the content as substantial.
“There was quite a bit of substance there, even given some of them were only 10ml,” Mr Aberdeen said.
“There were still two different types of steroids.”
Cumming had recently accepted a job in the mines in Western Australia and was expected to leave Mackay in just a few short weeks.
Mr Aberdeen fined Cumming $500.
No conviction was recorded.
