Police arrest 28yo allegedly responsible for a string of property and vehicle-related crimes

MACKAY police charged a man for a string of vehicle and property-related crimes ending an alleged two-month crime spree at Paget.

Early Friday morning, Kiren Hazard, 28, was arrested at a property on Broadsound Rd, Paget.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Savage said Mr Hazard was charged with 40 offences, including burglary, break and enter of industrial areas and drug offences.

"He was charged with a number of property offences, majority of them involved the unlawful use of a motor vehicle and break and enter in and around the Mackay district, a large percentage of those were identified as being committed in the Paget business hub," he said.

"Further items of property located in the rear yard were two stolen vehicles and a number of stolen number plates, as well as a number of personal property and items that investigators are still going through."

Snr Sgt Savage said Mr Hazard's offences were committed over a two-month period.

"This person was targeted because of the nature of the offences and the regularity of the offences being committed," he said.

"We deemed it a priority to target him, identify him and then arrest him.

"Those property offences affected a number of private businesses around the Paget area but also the owners of the vehicles."

The Mackay CIB officer in charge said the community was a big help in the investigation.

"We've always highlighted that crime, we investigate it, but if the community can assist us in anyway, it's going to go along way to deterring offenders," he said.

Snr Sgt Savage said a female, 24, was also arrested at the property in relation to alleged bail breaches.
