A good Samaritan copped more than he bargained for when he stopped at the scene of a crash, only to be allegedly assaulted and robbed.
A police spokesman said the 45-year-old man saw the crash on the Plantation Bridge on the Bruce Highway in Bloomsbury shortly after 11pm Monday.
The spokesman said the crashed car, a Holden sedan, was allegedly stolen from Cassia St in Beaconsfield earlier that afternoon.
The 45-year-old man found the alleged driver, a 16 year old, at the scene and tried to help.
But the teen allegedly turned on the man, assaulted him and stole his car with a boat attached.
The teen allegedly crashed the man’s car a short distance away and tried to flee on foot.
Police found the 16 year old not long after and arrested him.
Both the man and teen were taken to Proserpine Hospital for precautionary measures.
The teen was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, robbery, driving as an unaccompanied learner and two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He was denied bail and is expected to appear in court later this month.
