A Mackay hairdresser has unleashed a bout of violence after a misunderstanding at a Mackay Wine and Food Festival after-party.

Teegan Ann Brodie had headed to Langfords Hotel on the evening of July 17 when the hotel manager asked her fiance, who was on the lounge, to leave.

Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday heard the fiance told the manager she had to wait for Brodie.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Linden Pollard said the couple were eventually escorted to the back of the pub but when the manager tried to remove a schooner from Brodie, the scene escalated.

Sergeant Pollard said Brodie told the manager “you can’t steal my cup” before downing her beverage and striking the schooner to the ground, shattering it.

The court heard the manager continued trying to evict the couple from the pub but Brodie’s fiance latched onto a pole and refused to let go.

The manager then“put his arms around” the fiance to pry her off with Brodie then intervening, grabbing his forearm and “digging her fingernails in”.

Sergeant Pollard said the couple then fled but police who had viewed the hotel’s CCTV footage later recognised the pair on Wood St and took them into custody.
Brodie pleaded guilty to wilful damage and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Her defence lawyer Jordana Abela said Brodie agreed to the facts of the evening but believed the disturbance had arisen through a misunderstanding.

“[Brodie] said she was upset at the manager grabbing her fiance, she didn’t know why they were required to leave,” Ms Abela said.

“She said she was confused, [the manager] was not in uniform, he was wearing thongs.”

In his sentencing Magistrate Damien Dwyer took into consideration Brodie’s lack of a criminal history and her good character.

He fined her $1000 and ordered she pay $300 retribution.

Brodie was prohibited from entering any licensed premises in Mackay Regional Council’s precinct until January 10, 2022.

No conviction was recorded.
