A stalker has faced court after it was discovered he was back to his old tricks and also threatening to expose naked photos of his victim.
Shannon Joseph Trapp, 35, pleaded guilty in Mackay District Court on Thursday to unlawful stalking with threats of violence and obstructing a police officer.
The court heard casual sex and meth use had been part of his relationship with his victim, who he had known for seven years.
On February 19, Trapp was asked to leave the accommodation where the woman had been staying.
In the 48 hours following this, Trapp sent abusive and threatening text messages to the woman and her acquaintances, warning he would physically harm her and give other people access to photographs of her naked.
His conduct was reported to the police and he was arrested but not before he ran from officers, ignoring their demands to stop before he had to be tasered.
The court heard Trapp had a history of stalking and domestic violence, including one incident of breaking into the house of his former partner armed with a baseball bat.
Prosecutor Elizabeth Kelso called for a head sentence of two years in jail with parole release on Monday.
“With the assistance of corrective services, he can also be his own jailer,” she said.
“So if he can stay off the drugs and live a law-abiding life in terms of the support he still has and the trade that he has, then the community really benefits from that.”
Defence Barrister Matt Heelan told the court Trapp was eager to get his life back together and reconnect with his teenage daughter.
He also had two other children, aged six and nine.
Judge Ken Barlow said Trapp had a “very concerning history” with women and implored him to stop using drugs and get his life “back together”.
“You have seen now what it (drug use) does to you,” he said.
“It sends you to jail.
“You have got to get off the drugs and you have got to stay off the drugs.
“You will never have a relationship with your children if you don’t.”
For stalking, Trapp was sentenced to two years jail but will be released on parole on Monday.
For obstructing a police officer, Mr Trapp was sentenced to three months in prison, to be served concurrently.
Six months in pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
