Sefo Pau charged over fatal crash that allegedly caused death of father of three Scott Burrage at Mirani

The driver charged over the death of Mirani father Scott Burrage has appeared in court for the first time.

The driver accused of causing the death of Scott Burrage in a horror road crash at Mirani allegedly should not have been driving at the time.

Police allege Sefo Pau was speeding while on a SPER suspended licence when he was behind the wheel on Mackay Eungella Rd on March 20.

Father of three Mr Burrage died at the scene after paramedics and police tried desperately to save his life about 8pm.

Police believe he had been parked and checking his headlights in a driveway on the side of the road when he was allegedly struck by a vehicle.

Mr Pau, 34, is facing five charges – dangerous driving causing death while speeding, driving without a licence SPER suspended and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle that was not fitted with a prescribed interlock.

He fronted court for the first time on Wednesday when the five charges were read out by Magistrate Damien Dwyer.

The maximum penalty for the most serious charge – aggravated dangerous driving – is 14 years jail.

Legal Aid Queensland defence solicitor Rosie Varley requested a brief of evidence. He has not entered a plea to the charges.

The case was adjourned to a later date for mention.
