Two teens have been charged after a boy was allegedly forced into a car at knifepoint, sparking a major search across Mackay.

A 19-year-old Mackay man and 18-year-old Mackay woman are to appear in court on Tuesday after the alleged ordeal that began Saturday evening.

It will be alleged a 14-year-old boy had been walking with another boy, 13, who police said had arranged to meet up with two older teens in the Bakers Creek area Saturday night.

Police say the two parties met on Coles Hill Rd about 7.20pm Saturday, with the 13 year old willingly getting into the vehicle. The older boy refused.

Detective Inspector Tom Armitt said it would be alleged it was at that point a 19-year-old man, inside the car that had stopped, pulled a knife and forced the 14-year-old boy into the vehicle.

The car “randomly drove around Mackay” for several hours with the teen in the boot, eventually stopping outside the Night Owl in Slade Point about 10.30pm.

CCTV from a Slade Point store shows the 14-year-old walking through a car park shortly after fleeing the car.

“This was not a random abduction event committed against the boys,” Inspector Armitt said.

Inspector Armitt said the 14-year-old boy managed to escape and raised the alarm, triggering a large-scale police search operation and pursuit, including aerial support from RACQ CQ Rescue.

A man and woman will face a Mackay court on Tuesday over the alleged incident.

The 19-year-old Mackay man was charged with deprivation of liberty, dangerous driving, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and common assault.

A 18-year-old North Mackay woman was charged with deprivation of liberty and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

Two other teenage occupants were taken into custody, however they were later released after it was determined they had not been in the car at the time of the incident.

Sarina residents reported the low-flying chopper above parts of the town for more than an hour as it helped police track the vehicle.

The car was traced to the Sarina area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It was tracked to Bakers Creek where police deployed stingers in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The 13-year-old boy was found when the vehicle was intercepted in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Inspector Armitt said the nature of the conversation between the younger teen and the older pair inside the vehicle remained under investigation.

He said investigations suggested “a number of people were picked up in the vehicle over a period of time” and detectives wanted to speak to the 19-year-old man and 18-year-old woman.

Inspector Armitt said neither of the boys were injured in the incident, and the 14-year-old boy was in the care of his parents.

“While shaken up, he seems in good spirits,” he said.
